so that was interesting..
May. 23rd, 2004 10:43 amApparently, when it rains, it pours in the belly dance world...there ended up being like 4 different events happening yesterday, just in the Bay Area alone, not to mention the huge IAMED thing happening down in SoCal. I think this, along with a few other things, explained the not-so-stellar turn-out for the MECDA event...but apparently it was about the same as the last one---it's just that this one was 8 hours long instead of 4 hours, so people were less condensed.
So vending was blah, but we got the space in trade anyway for Keith doing sound, who also got paid of course, so not bad. I really didn't expect corset belts to sell at this event anyway, it's just not that type of crowd...but there was definite interest, so that was interesting to see.
jezebeltw did a great job of helping me set up, and I hope you're feeling better hon! I actually like not having so much stuff ---the girls always gave us a huge amount of different things---and since we're moving into the area of choosing what we carry, I can cut it down to the most essential..I'm not going to carry jewelry, unless I make it, or I find someone's I'd like to carry, so that saves our table space for art and cd's. And the slew of Tribal Bibles I inherited LOL.
It was a good event for socializing, since there wasn't much else going on :) I suited up for "when you're evil" and I think that went over really well, and again, I had fun doing it ;) (look ma! she CAN smile and dance!) And then I took a quick series of pix for Dawn, and I bought a few of them, so in a few weeks, I'll have those in hand. Dawn also got the most awesome pix of me and Anaar at TF4! (was starting to think we offended/shocked/bored/whatever folks so much that no one took pix *sniffle*), so as soon as she burns those to CD, I'll share :) And apparently, I appeared in the most recent issued of "Cymbal", but they mistitled the photo with another dancer's name...go fig LOL. MECDA has a huge typo-blind spot when it comes to me :P
Anyway, I need to go unload the van and get ready to go to work for 5 hours, in which I will hopefully be working solo...
Here's a pic that Keith took...I liked the way the light silhouetted my hand:
