are you ready for this?
Feb. 10th, 2004 10:42 amSo Saturday was Dances for the Winter Moon....Keith and I cameled for Paloma...DftWM is basically a full day of 6 workshops, with vending, and a hafla/show in the evening. Azar did her fabulous "easy 9/8's" and wowed everyone (I don't think anyone sat out on this workshop!). I signed up to dance for the evening show, and as "luck" would have it, I ended up with the last spot of the evening. Now, I must express some issues here. Half of the workshop teachers had to leave, so only 3 performed in the show, and in the first half of it (23 or 24 acts, so 12/12). This is fine. My issue came with two "troupes". One group performed a trio, a duet, and at least 2 solos (not all in the same set...4 different sets, 7 minutes each)...and the other did a trio, and 2 solos, again, 7 minutes each. So nearly an hour of the show was absorbed by these two groups, who for the most part, really weren't all that and a bag of chips. So, by the time I got on stage, 60-70% of the audience had run away. :P Now, over 60 folks attended the workshop event, and there were roughly enough dance slots for half...and 6 people took up a third of them. What possesses people to do that? Like there aren't enough performance opportunities in the Bay Area, you need to take up 7-8 slots at one event with your egos? UGH!!!!
Some nice things though. These two Egyptian women (well, definitely Middle Eastern, I'm not 100% on the Egyptian but I've seen them before I think at other events schmoozing with the Egyptian vendors) came up to me afterwards and thanked me. They said that I made it worth sitting through that whole thing. I also heard something else that was a bit of boost too...so I got my warm fuzzies ;) Must be doing something right ;)
PantheaCon is this weekend. This means I have to:
-get more prints made, and prepped
-more notecards and magnets made
-new business cards printed up
-get W3 stuff tonight and put it all on hangers, ready to go
-choose music and outline my workshop
-get music sorted out for La Luna Rouge on Friday night.
-pick out costuming for everything
-try not to go bonkers.
Bonkers, here I come.
