So..um...yeah.
May. 24th, 2003 01:17 amAs of today, Friday, May 23rd, The Psychic Eye Book Shop of Mountain View, California is CLOSED. FOREVER. No, I'm not kidding. This came as quite a nasty shock to everyone from the manager to the employees and readers. There were signs earlier this week that something was up, but we figured we had at least until July 1st, or hell, even June 1st...but no, today was it.
The now-former employees of the Eye have plans in the works for possibly a new (non-Eye) store, so as soon as that develops into something physical...in the meantime, one of my clients is offering me space in her building in downtown Los Altos to use for reading appointments and my classes. I hope to finalize these details by the beginning of next week, so I can get my clients together and keep the money flowing and expand from there. On the upside, I'll have more time for getting MedDevi Ink (artwork/design/etc) really going.
Many of the employees have been with the store for years, and it was home to many people of different paths, a place to learn, share, and hang-out for all ages. Yes, we may have kidded around and called it silly names like the Eyeball and the Wiccan Walmart, but the atmosphere created by the readers and employees made it a special store, different from the others in the chain, and it filled a deeper, esoteric niche in the Pagan and New Age communities.
I could really use a drink. a BIG one.
I could get nasty, but I'm too tired.
